Newcastle Television Survey Eight, 2008 Results

In survey eight, NBN's Rugby Leagues Final Series dominating top positions in the 18 – 49 and 16 – 39 age groups with 60 Minutes winning the 25 – 54 age group, while channel Ten's Australian Idol prevented an NBN clean sweep by topping the 25 – 39 age group.

In the overall programs category, NBN took out the top three places with Rugby Leagues Final Series PF 1 & 2 and National News Sunday.

In survey seven, its neck and neck with NBN's show The Strip taking out top positions in our viewer rankings in the 25 - 54 and 25 - 39 age groups, while Ten's Australian Idol tops the 18 - 49 and 16 - 39 age groups.

PRIME's Packed To The Rafters and City Homicide are the big movers in our TOTAL PEOPLE survey, breaking NBN's dominance. But NBN's National News Sunday and Domestic Blitz are still the best overall programs.

Its mid-year and NBN are continuing to dominant our viewer rankings across all age groups except for those 16 to 39 year olds.

All Top 5 programs on our TOTAL PEOPLE survey were televised on NBN, with National News Sunday and National News being the best programs.

Newcastle Television Survey Two, 2008 Results

The television viewing results have taken an unexpected twist so far this year with NBN bouncing back strongly from their soft finish to 2007.

We had been expecting a strong performance from Prime earlier this year, but many of their new programs have failed to fire, while previously strong shows have lost their gloss.

The biggest talking point of TV in 2008 has been Underbelly which has become an unbeatable ratings winner in its time slot. Underbelly has been a welcome return to brave and high-quality locally produced television.

Year-to-date performances have NBN on 32.0 well ahead of Prime  25.3 and SC Ten with 19.2.

Sticky's TV Cost-effectiveness Rankings

Results tightened up a little this week after NBN's strong start to the first week of official ratings. Prime finished a strong second to NBN, just 2.8 points behind. Underbelly was the star performer again, actually increasing audience from week 1 and proving that networks may be rewarded if they are willing to invest in quality programming.

However, Prime rates very well in our TV Cost-effective Rankings for the Newcastle market taking the first four places in nearly all demograhics.
