Newcastle Television Survey Two, 2008 Results

The television viewing results have taken an unexpected twist so far this year with NBN bouncing back strongly from their soft finish to 2007.

We had been expecting a strong performance from Prime earlier this year, but many of their new programs have failed to fire, while previously strong shows have lost their gloss.

The biggest talking point of TV in 2008 has been Underbelly which has become an unbeatable ratings winner in its time slot. Underbelly has been a welcome return to brave and high-quality locally produced television.

Year-to-date performances have NBN on 32.0 well ahead of Prime  25.3 and SC Ten with 19.2.

Sticky's TV Cost-effectiveness Rankings

In this months 'Top 5 List' the big winners are PRIME's RSPCA Animal Rescue and Gladiators.

According to our analysts RSPCA Animal Rescue finished the most cost-effective TV program in the Total audience, over 55's and the 25 - 54 year olds age groups, while its hot Gladiators show finished top in the 25 - 39, 16 - 54 and 16 - 39 age groups.

Newcastle Radio Survey 1, 2008

The first Newcastle radio survey of 2008 has seen NXFM soar to unprecedented heights while competitor NEWFM sank to new lows.

NXFM won the survey with a share of 23.5 followed by stablemate KOFM on 18.8. 2HD was third on 15.1 while ABC1233 ran fourth after fall to 10.4. Triple J was fifth with 6.9 beating NEWFM for the first time as they sank to 5.6.

The cumulative audience result were even more stark with NXFM now reaching a massive 189,000 listeners, followed by KOFM 151,000, ABC1233 97,000, 2HD 91,000, and NEWFM 86,000.

Demographically the average audiences were dismal for NEWFM, receiving an * (unmeasurably small) in two demographics and only 1,000 for all other demographics.

The key breakfast shift was won comfortably by NXFM with 22.9 share, followed by KOFM 19.9, 2HD 16.9, ABC1233 12.0, Triple J 5.8 and NEWFM 5.4.

Sticky designs bicycling clothing for Newcastle charity

An interesting job recently passed through Sticky when we were asked to design the cycling outfits to be worn in the 2008 Hadley Cycles Ride for Sick Kids supporting Ronald McDonald House. The design work included cycling jerseys, knicks, leg and arm warmers, vests, gloves and socks. Not something we do every day, but an interesting creative challenge all the same.

The Hadley Cycles Ride for Sick Kids is an annual charity fundraiser that sees a large group riding from a starting point in regional NSW to Newcastle. Last year’s effort saw 20+ participants covering 508kms to raise $205,238.
